Winnifred Beach
This is not the name of your spinster aunt, but the best public beach in Port Antonio. The half-moon-shaped strip of sand attracts more islanders than visitors. Offshore is a dramatic reef of living coral teeming with marine life, attracting snorkelers swimmers and even surfers at when the swell is up.
Locals sometimes stage reggae parties here on a Saturday nights. During the day a boatman will take you out on a bamboo raft or one of their small crafts to a secluded little beach just around the headland; escape with a loved one if you find Winnifred too crowded. For lunch a number of jerk huts line the shore. Many of the Rasta men here will also serve you i-Tal food.
